Canoe Trip Leader Course

ORCA Canoe Tripping 2
- Trip Leader Course -

We are offering an accredited Ontario Recreational Canoe Association (ORCA) course for people wishing to get their Level 2 designation in Canoe Tripping. This is also known as the Trip Leader level, and would be very useful for anyone who is, or wants to become, a canoe guide.

Date: May 4 - 8, 2005
What: The course will be 5 days long, and consist of 2 days of "classroom" followed by a 3 day "practical" canoe trip.
Cost: $475/person + GST - this programme normally sells for $550, but we are running it on an "at cost" basis. You will be expected to provide your own camping equipment and help out with meals and dishes.
Where: Algonquin Eco-Lodge (near Bancroft). The canoe trip portion will be in Algonquin Park or on the Madawaska River.
Included: Course material, meals, 3 nights accommodations at the Eco-Lodge, permits and food for canoe trip, group camping equipment (stoves, pots & pans, etc.).
Not Included: Canoe, personal camping gear (tent, sleeping bag, paddle, PFD, rain gear, etc.).

Prerequisites:

  1. At least 25 nights of wilderness canoe tripping experience.
  2. Wilderness canoe tripping distance totalling 500 km.
  3. At least 6 wilderness canoe trips in which the candidate was responsible for some organization.
  4. One canoe trip of 5 days or more.
  5. Must be 17 years of age or more.
  6. Moving Water level 1a, Canoe Tripping level 1, Lake Water level 1a (or comparable experience with permission of the course director).
